Brinly's BIO

A Deeper Look On Philosophy

Brinly Schreijer is an active, professional performer and writer in the New York area, who always endeavors to tell a personal narrative through art and performance. Whose goal is always centered around one mission: the empowerment of women. With the belief that to liberate women is intrinsically tied to the liberation of people of color, the queer community, immigrates, and the neurodivergent-disabled communities of America.

Born of an Irish-Indonesian family in the state of Indiana, Brinly has always had a complex relationship with her identity. Her Irish family came over in the 1920s, instilling values of immigrant resilience and strong values of liberation and anti-colonialism. Her Indonesian family came over in the 1960s, instilling values of hard work and an awareness of the inherent nature of oneness with the universe.

Growing up in a deep red state is what drove Brinly to her feminist ideals. Giving her an up close and transformative experience understanding the depths of institution of patriarchy within American society.

Brinly's art is a mission to address her complex love for the country she grew up in while addressing its short comings. (To put it nicely.)

Brinly does not shy away from boldness. It is the center of her philosophy regarding feminine liberation. To be bold and blunt is to take direct action against a society which values the meek maiden. So upon meeting Brinly expect her to be unrelentingly honest.

She hopes to empower other women, and those she aligns with, to match this energy. To be one's most authentic self despite the consequences is always worth the trials. Self-liberation is the first step in all liberation.
